Just Cause is a third-person action-adventure series in open world environments. Just Cause 4 follows protagonist Rico Rodriguez as he arrives in the South American island nation of Solis.

 

My Work

QUEST DESIGN

The backers: Garland, Javi, and Sargento

  • Owner of quest and collectibles content for all backers

  • Owned and designed all custom scripted intro and outro backer quests

  • Prototyped quest prefabs used for all Sargento and Garland main missions

  • Owned collectibles usage and best practices setup, including:

    • Establishing challenge goals and distribution approach for vehicle, speed, and wingsuit ring collectibles

    • Pitching, prototyping, and establishing use case setups for surveillance dirigible collectibles

    • Pitching, collaborating with technical design on prototypes, and establishing use case setups for pointing statue collectibles

  • Designed quest placement and flow to move players across the map efficiently and link static content together

  • Designed quests to showcase unique tools and aspects of the JC4 game, such as:

    • Utilizing sniper laser visibility with our sandstorm extreme weather tools to help players locate and dispose of enemies in a unique environment

    • Creating drone “swarms” out of our regular drone enemies that, when followed, lead players to pockets of enemies, ending at the drone factory

    • Allow for temporary infinite-ammo rocket launchers in a mission against heavy armor enemies and tanks

    • Created complex sniping mission with complex custom AI scripting setups

    • Designing mechanics of the Javi tombs to allow for player experimentation in our physics sandbox

 

Level Design

  • Created rough terrain and geo blockouts throughout quest paths in an open world development cycle where locations frequently changed quickly and drastically

  • Coordinated and collaborated with world designers and environment artists to identify, adjust, iterate on, and create memorable locations and vistas for quest content

 

Misc

  • Advocated the Olmec Head skin to the “Javi ball” present in the ancient tombs

  • Created our exploding pinata variant out of our legacy pinata asset and our gas station explosion, which was used in a Sargento quest
